Cafe Sessions with Steve: May 2021

All good news heading into May! With the population getting vaccinated, warm weather approaching, and sports aplenty, May just might be the best month of 2021 (and 2020, but duh). Red Rocks Amphitheater announced their summer lineup and COVID precautions. Coloradans can return to live sporting events too! Like I said, all great news. Let’s dig in.

Red Rocks Season is Back

Announced earlier this month, Red Rocks Amphitheatre was cleared to open for their 80th anniversary season with a reduced capacity – currently set at 2,500.

Throughout the season, all events will be held in alignment with government guidelines. While 2,500 is the number they’re currently allowed to have, conditions and event capacities may be updated and hopefully increase throughout the summer. Fingers crossed!

A number of shows currently on the Red Rocks calendar reflect concerts that were rescheduled from the 2020 season. Fans with tickets to shows rescheduled from 2020 should hold on to their tickets, as those tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled date.

The continued use of masks in crowded settings is recommended, but not required in your designated area (I know, mind blown!). Masks are required inside restrooms, the Trading Post, Visitor Center and any indoor area.

You will receive a wristband upon entering the amphitheater that allows access to your designated section – this wristband must be worn at all times. You and your party (up to 6 people) must maintain social distance from other parties in the seating area and other areas of the amphitheater.

From digital ticketing in the Red Rocks app, to cashless concession payments, to touch-free restroom fixtures, Red Rocks is committing to a touchless experience and have implemented these measures to keep people safe.

Sports Stadium Rules & Capacities

Coors Field

Rockies games are back baby! When announced in March that the Rockies would be playing for live-in-person fans in 2021, the original capacity requirement was no more than 22% or 12,500 fans in seats. Then earlier this month, it was announced that more fans would be able to attend! The revised capacity is about 42.6% of the stadium’s total capacity or 21,363 fans.

Now there are some things to be aware of. The sections of seats around your seating area will be roped off, meaning you won’t have anyone in-front, behind, or directly to either side of your group. It gives an odd feel, but honestly, its kind of nice knowing you won’t have some tall dude blocking your view.

Another thing I wasn’t expecting: no peanuts or seeds. As a guy who loves a bag of ballpark peanuts, I was disappointed. They say the spitting of the shells was not COVID-friendly. I’ll abide. So long as I can watch baseball. To no surprise, masks and social distancing are required whenever possible. So mask up, be safe, and let’s play ball!

Pepsi Center

Baseball isn’t the only sport allowing a live audience. The indoor arenas are stepping up too! The Nuggets and Avalanche both announced at the beginning of April that the stadium will allow up to 4,050 fans to attend basketball games and hockey matches, which is 22% of the building's capacity.

First access to tickets will be given to Avalanche and Nuggets ticket plan holders and partners through multiple presales. A limited amount of seats will be available to the general public. The next Avalanche game is May 12th against the Los Angeles Kings. The Nuggets play May 5th against the Nicks. Get your tickets before they’re sold out!

As the weather warms, and the summer activities begin, I just wanted to add a final "Be safe". We deserve a great summer after being indoors last year. Let’s not ruin it for everyone. Follow the guidelines, have fun, and maybe by the end of summer we’ll be at full capacity everywhere!
